Get ready for the 2016-2017 school year!

It’s been a busy summer as we prepare ourselves to welcome 7,000 students back to our classrooms for the 2016-2017 school year.

Since last August we’ve spent a lot of time listening to you - through surveys, focus groups, social media, and as many personal conversations as possible with our students, staff, families, and community. We’ve reflected on your feedback, and have a number of expanded programs and improved opportunities for students as a result of this input. Here are some of the ways we’re keeping our promises to you, while doing what’s right for kids:

  • Introducing Mercy School-Based Health Clinics, improving access to health care, right here in our schools;

  • Offering free breakfast and lunch for all students grades K-12;

  • Redistricting, to better balance our schools and provide more equitable services district-wide. Need to verify where your child will attend this year? Enter your address into this website, or call us at 440-830-4078;

  • Expanding ELL programming for our growing population of students who are English Language Learners;

  • Educating students with special needs in their home schools so that they can be in the same school building as their siblings and neighborhood friends;

  • Returning to three Middle Schools by converting Lorain High Annex back to Southview Middle School serving students in grades 6, 7, and 8;

  • Opening the new Lorain High School, with state-of-the-art programming for our students. Click here to learn about the upcoming opportunities available to tour the facility and celebrate this monumental time with us;

  • Partnering with community organizations such as Lorain County Community College, which is currently registering for classes in the new Lorain Community Learning Center located in the new Lorain High School; and

  • Expanding communication through an improved website, this weekly e-newsletter, a free Smart phone mobile app, active social media pages for all of our schools, text messaging, and even a print newsletter, hitting homes soon.

And we’re not done yet. Be sure to stay tuned to all of the ways we’re working to earn your trust.

Excited about the upcoming school year? Be sure to check out the Back to School area of our website, and download school supply lists, get the latest updates on building Open Houses, learn what your Kindergarten student needs to prepare for school, and mark your calendar for the festivities surrounding the opening of the new Lorain High School.

We’ll see you soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeff Graham,

Superintendent
